I wanted to go here for Winterlicious 2011, but it was booked full when the group wanted to go, so I was determined to go here this time (it’s with a different group of friends). The place does French cuisine, and I could see why it was booked so quickly. It’s a really small room on McCaul st.

APPETIZERS:

Escargots! I had this one, and it pretty much just tasted like what escargots taste like, but in a sort of sauce. I don’t remember the sauce standing out that much, but it was tasty enough from my memory.

Salad of some sort.

Soup — don’t really know what kind :P

MAIN DISHES:

Duck Leg! The whole reason I wanted to go here was to try the duck leg :D . It was pretty tasty, and I really liked it with the blueberry sauce that it came with. I haven’t had a lot of meat with sweet sauces, so it was pretty interesting for me :D .

Salmon.

My friend has an obsession with shepherd’s pie.

DESSERT:

Creme Brulee. I got this and I remember liking it!

Raspberry Gelato, I think?

I have absolutely no clue what this is! I think it’s some kind of pastry with chocolate on it.

Or this, for that matter. I’m so helpful. Googled it, and it’s poached pear :D .

Winterlicious 2011! This is some kind of peruvian restaurant I think! Or latin american-ish. I dunno! I’m pretty sure the winterlicious menu said peruvian :P .

Ceviche? It’s a cold appetizer with shrimps and lemony juice on it. It’s okay and really interesting to eat since I’ve never had it before.

My friend’s soup. I think it’s wild mushroom?

Beef :)

My lamb rack! It was so goood ♥

And sea bass! Omg delicious.

They ran out of all the other desserts :( . This chocolate cake was delicious though.

For appetizer, I had this shrimp thing!

My bf had a ceasar salad~

And idk what this is. XD

Steak!

Baked stuffed chicken~~ It was really cheesy and thus my stomach was doing weird things afterwards, but it tastes fine :3. My bf was going crazy over the rice XDDDDDD.

Lobster Pasta~

Tiramisu~~

Sorbet~

My toffee pudding <3.

It’s Summerlicious time! This is probably one of the few times where Summerlicious/Winterlicious wasn’t subpar food with tiny portions. I forgot my camera last year in for the restaurant we went to, too :( . Three-course meal for $25 bucks.

This restaurant specializes in Greek and Mediterranean food. Oh, and they have a bellydancer on certain days. We were there for both the 7:30 and the 9:30 ones. It’s kind of awkward having a random bellydancer come up to your table while you’re eating, and even more awkward watching middle-aged men stare at her and smile.

The bread! We get pita bread instead of the standard… other bread. XD

I forget what this is called on the menu, but it’s Grape leaves wrapping rice or something. Kind of tastes like lettuce rolls XD.

I got mussels =D

I got lamb.. something. Anyways, it was in some kind of soup-like thing (my friend said it tastes like Campell’s XD), but I thought it was yummy. The lamb was good ^^.

My bf got steak! Mmm. Again, yummy!

Creme Brulee for dessert. The inside was a bit too watery pudding-like in consistency, but it tasted quite good nevertheless.

Sundae with vanilla and strawberry ice cream with strawberries.

Yum!

My parents, my boyfriend and I went downtown to see Sound of Music, and decided to try out one of the Winterlicious menus around the area. :) For those who don’t know what Winterlicious is, in Toronto every year in both the winter and the summer (Summerlicious), restaurants can offer a three-course meal, usually around $20 or so, depending on whether it’s dinner or lunch. This year, they extended it for about a week or so, so it coincided with our reading week ^^. The meal portions are usually smaller than what you would usually get at the restaurant (obviously). The choices are usually limited to around 3-4 different choices for each course.

First off, appetizers!

I had escargots. For some reason, it reminded me of those you get out of cans… o.o; Like the smell. I have no idea, but I’ve had some before without the certain smell. Otherwise, same old.

My boyfriend had some sort of paté. I dunno, but it was rather tasty, even if I don’t really like that kind of stuff XD.

I don’t remember what the third option was… but I think my dad might have gotten it, and I forgot to take a picture of it.

Look at that thinly sliced Chicken! Twas some kind of mushroom sauce I think? I forget by now what exactly there was in the sauce XD. But yes, this was mine!

My boyfriend and my mom ordered salmon. It was actually quite yummy! I’m surprised because usually restaurant’s fish meals are less tasty than the Chicken/Pork/Beef stuff, unless they specialize in sea food. Perhaps that’s just my bad experiences at those large chain restaurants.

The last one is the pork. Twas my dad’s.

And the desserts!

My boyfriend ordered some sort of cake thing from the Winterlicious menu.

Mom got this one. Some kind of creme thing. XD

Mine was ice cream inside of some kind of pastry, and with a nutty chocolate sauce over it. Obviously, someone neglected to tell me twas nuts (or I didn’t notice on the menu). I hate nuts with a passion.

And that’s it!

I forgot my camera :/.

My high school friends, my boyfriend and I went to this place on the 27th of July for their Summerlicious menu, because we had apparently forgotten to go check out Summerlicious this year. In any case, we went here for dinner ($25) for a three-course meal.

I absolutely loved the decor of this place. Very pretty. If you go further into “The Sultan’s Tent” (which features the bellydancers), you’ll get a very pretty amount of cloth being hung everywhere in a very nice fashion. Very nice design.

For appetizers, my boyfriend and I had the Maftoul and the Mango Duck Breast Salad. I loved the Maftaoul, which is basically beef wrapped in pastry, but it has a slightly spicy taste to it, and they were quite tasty. The salad was quite good as well, and mangos always make me happy. The duck breast was quite good.

For the main entree, I chose the mango salmon, while my boyfriend had the beef ribs. Both of us were quite disapointed with both of the entrees. The beef was okay, but nothing outstanding. However, my salmon was almost tasteless. Apparently my friend’s salmon WAS tasteless rather than almost tasteless. The portions were pretty big, but the food itself really wasn’t that good. I was thoroughly disappointed.

For desert, we tried both choices: the creme brulee and the Moroccan treats. The treats were underwhelming, and we were disappointed that we weren’t even given utensils to eat the orange slices. The two pieces of “treats” on the side consisted of one piece of chocolate-like thing, and another kind of flaky pastry. They weren’t bad, but not that interesting or that tasty in my opinion. The creme brulee was extremely yummy though. My friend commented that it was more like pudding than the usual creme brulee, but it was nonetheless very tasty. Sugar makes me happy.

Overall, the experience at Cafe Moroc was rather underwhelming. Although I liked the appetizers and the creme brulee, the main entree really lacked in any flavour and really disappointed me.
